Are “accessories” your hair’s best friends?

Curlformers, Tangle Teezers, Denman brushes or drying towels, accessories are often very important, not just extras.
They are even essential to our daily life and make haircare routines for our afro-textured hair more effective.
Let’s take a closer look at our manes’ best friends:

Curlformers, we can find them in every color: these curlers in the shape of an elongated spiral leave behind beautifully defined, bouncy curls. A few simple steps are all it takes to obtain a beautiful result.
Apply curlformers to wet hair, following the application directions (for beautiful curls, be careful not to mix up left and right!)
Mist your hair with water and coat it with styling gel or a leave-in conditioner.
Don’t make the sections too big and go about it methodically. You might have to apply yourself the first time around, but you will quickly get the hang of it. Then, just let it dry and you’ll have great curls for about a week.

Tangle Teezers are your best friends for detangling. Originally from England, Tangle Teezers are compact and slightly curved brushes that do not have a handle which gives better control. They quickly conquered the French market because of their effectiveness.
The Tangle Teezer’s 2-height level tines remove knots without pulling or snagging. They bend and flex to glide through strands without breaking the hair. We love them for adults but if you have to deal with your children’s detangling, it’s the ideal tool because it’s flexible and more comfortable than the classic afro brush!

The Denman Brush
The famous Denman Brush has, in just a few years, become a worldwide synonym for detangling. Flexible and adaptable, it is designed with a pliable rubber mat that allows you to select the number of tines adapted to each type of hair. The tines are planted in rows, so you can select the exact number of rows that suits you best (roughly from 7 to 5 rows).
It is suitable for detangling as well as for styling, for straightened hair as well as for nappy hair.
The advantage of the Denman Brush is that the rounded ends of the tines do not hurt the scalp, so you can style your hair deeply, making it bouncier and shinier, especially if you add a few drops of serum.
Good to know: separate your hair into sections before detangling and wet the brush before getting into each section (you need about 8 sections because if you do less, the brush won’t be able to penetrate well).

The microfiber drying towel.
Among the tricks not to be overlooked to prevent hair from tangling, is the microfiber drying towel. Unlike towels made of cotton terrycloth, these do not require rubbing the hair and therefore do not cause knots. Microfiber materials have impressive absorbency (3 times more than a traditional towel), so there is no need to rub and drying takes less time! Last but not least, it is light, thin and dries very quickly, so you can take it with you on your travels. It’s easy to wash, dries in a flash and resists bacteria. More freshness, for longer and all that in a featherweight version!

The satin pillowcase
A classic anti-frizz and anti-matting tip, the satin pillowcase is still an effective method of keeping coily hair from tangling overnight.
The friction of afro-textured hair on rougher materials such as linen or cotton causes 2 side effects: it hooks onto the surface of the hair and absorbs the lipidic film which protects it (it is this film which allows hair to retain its hydration) leaving you with the “battle field” look in the morning. In addition, dehydrated hair splits and is difficult to detangle; it breaks and becomes dull.
The satin pillowcase (or any other smooth fabric such as silk or polyester) is a trick that goes back to the “dawn of time” but is still very relevant today! Hair cuticles are protected and our hair stays in place and supple. It is much easier to style!

Drying with a diffuser
Your afro-textured hair is demanding and you choose your shampoos, serums, conditioners meticulously for sublime hair, it would be a pity to let drying make all your efforts go to waste!
Before you start blow-drying your hair, soak up most of the water, section by section, with a microfiber towel as seen above. Do not rub, dab gently to avoid spreading the cuticle and making the hair rough when combing or brushing.

Use a dryer with a diffuser to ensure beautiful curls (the dryer alone will dry out the hair) and ideally, protect your hair beforehand with an anti-heat treatment.
Using a diffuser means keeping your distance. Hold the attachment about 15 cm from the hair so as not to dry it out and work your way down from the roots to the ends so as not to detach the cuticle. This will keep your hair smoother and shinier, and most importantly, stronger.
